Wunderman Thompson SA appoints new Chief Strategy Officer
Marketing and advertising consultancy Wunderman Thompson South Africa has appointed Moagi Bodibe as its Chief Strategy Officer, placing him in charge of developing multi-channel marketing solutions for the firm’s substantial client pool. Bodibe has nearly two decades of professional experience in the media and marketing sectors.
A journalist by academic background, Bodibe began his professional career as a journalist. He began at the Financial Mail before moving to Media24, where he made his way to Deputy Editor of Drum Magazine after more than a year. His first foray into marketing came in 2005, when he joined Yellowwood.
Having worked at Yellowwod for nearly six years and ascended to the position of Strategist, Bodibe moved to Vodacom as a Manager for Strategy & Planning in the firm’s Product marketing division. He held a variety of roles at Vodacom and has since held a number of executive marketing positions at companies included, MetropolitanRepublic, Publicis Machine and Publicis Communications.
He now takes over as Chief Strategy Officer at Wunderman Thompson, as the firm looks to establish a stronghold in the rampant South African marketing landscape. Wunderman Thompson leverages its creative capabilities and expertise in data analytics and tech to provide marketing solutions for its clients, ranging from digital communications to branding to customer relationship management (CRM).
In South Africa, the business environment is focusing on innovation, and creative marketing techniques have come to the fore of this new drive. Google and the Boston Consulting Group recently launched their Digital Maturity Benchmark in South Africa to help businesses gauge their position vis-à-vis competitors when it comes to marketing innovation.
The digital aspect of marketing has become central, and many organisations have come up to offer comprehensive solutions in the digital marketing space. Hoorah Digital is one example of a company that has come up with precisely this mandate, to great success thus far. Bodibe will be looking to enhance Wunderman Thompson’s position relative to the competition.
“Wunderman Thompson is the largest digital agency globally, and while digital transformation is all the rage in business these days, it has always been at the core of what Wunderman Thompson offers. The agency has continuously evolved its capabilities in response to a changing world, one that requires ongoing innovation. It’s wonderful to be part of this team with a distinct culture of progression. There’s a real sense that we’re building something amazing,” he said, commenting on his appointment.
Wunderman Thompson South Africa’s Chief People Officer Unati Moalusi added, “In his role, Bodibe is responsible for the agency’s 20-person department who work with the various business units sifting through the data and information, making sense of it and inspiring creatives and technologists to create experiences that engage with and excite audiences and users. The team operates across traditional ATL, digital and social media communication and marketing. They also work alongside the data and insights specialists who measure the impact of the various digital and social media marketing interventions.”
