AeroCloud expands into African airports market and partners with Phungela

AeroCloud, a UK-company that provides technology solutions to airports around the world, has expanded into African market. South African digital transformation consultancy Phungela has been named its market entry partner.

Founded in 2019, AeroCloud provides airports with platforms and solutions that enable them to run their operations and passenger services. Key processes supported include security scanning, flight information displays, gate management, departure control, and flight management.

Customers of AeroCloud’s cloud-native operations platform include Liverpool John Lennon Airport and London Luton Airport in the UK, Frankfurt Airport in Germany, and Tampa International Airport in the US.

George Richardson, CEO and Co-Founder of AeroCloud (and a former professional racing driver), said that the expansion into Africa marks an important milestone in the firm’s growth ambitions. “When we started this company, the mission was simple: build technology that empowers airport teams and helps them operate with more confidence, clarity and capacity. Our growth over the past few years shows that airports everywhere are ready for a more modern approach.”

“Entering the African market is a proud moment for AeroCloud and a natural step in our global journey. Africa is a prime target due to air transport being essential, airports operate on the continent together in groups, very similar to the US. I think we will be hugely successful.”

Partnership with Phungela

As part of its expansion, AeroCloud is partnering with Phungela, a digital transformation consulting firm headquartered in Sandton, South Africa. The company delivers technology, consulting and managed services to organisations across Africa.

The tie-up will see Phungela serve as implementation partner of AeroCloud’s hardware and software platforms. “With Phungela’s understanding of the African aviation landscape and AeroCloud’s proven platform, together we will help airports increase efficiency, improve passenger flow and unlock new operational capacity without the need for additional infrastructure,” said Richardson.

“Their on-the-ground support and strong regional insight mean we can deliver impact from day one. We are excited to work alongside them and to support airports across Africa as they move toward the future of operations.”

Commenting on the partnership. Nkululeko Mhlaba, Chief Executive Officer at Phungela, said: “Our partnership with AeroCloud positions Phungela as a strategic digital transformation partner to Africa’s aviation ecosystem. Together, we are bringing cloud-led innovation, data intelligence and scalable platforms to an industry that is central to the continent’s economic connectivity.”

This collaboration is not only about modernising airports. It is about enabling a more efficient, predictive and passenger-centred aviation sector. We are proud to work alongside AeroCloud to help shape the next chapter of Africa’s digital infrastructure.”
