Deloitte Consulting appoints Carmen Whateley as partner in Financial Services practice

Big Four firm Deloitte has strengthened its consulting business with Carmen Whateley, who joins the company in its Johannesburg office.

The new partner brings close to 30 years of experience in consulting and industry to Deloitte. She crosses from Accenture, where she was a Managing Director in its US business, having previously spent over eight years with the professional services giant in its South African business.

In her consulting career, Carmen partnered with financial services clients on topics including core banking modernisation, digital transformation, payments, data‑driven change, and large-scale transformation.

“My consulting career has focused on helping organisations navigate inflection points where strategy, technology, and people must align to deliver sustainable value. I have led and advised businesses through the emergence of digital banking, the acceleration of payment ecosystems, and the broad impact of enterprise-wide transformation programmes within highly regulated environments,” she states.

Commenting on her move to Deloitte, Carmen said: “I am excited to be back in South Africa and to leverage my years of experience to make a positive impact on African soil.”

Earlier in her career, Carmen held several senior roles during her dozen years at Vodacom and Nedbank. At Vodacom, she served as the executive responsible for introducing the company’s mobile money service – which at the time was a first for South Africa During her time at Nedbank, Carmen played a key role in developing the bank’s digital payments strategy and building out its e-payments portfolio.

Carmen Whateley holds a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Psychology and Industrial Sociology, a Programme in Development Management from Wits Business School, and a master’s degree in Business Executive Coaching. She is also a certified Gallup Strengths‑based coach.
