Cape Town-based Anchor Environmental Consultants bought by SLR Consulting
Anchor Environmental Consultants, a South African-founded consultancy, has been acquired by global consulting firm SLR Consulting.
Founded in the 1990s, Anchor Environmental Consultants is a specialist marine and natural capital consultancy headquartered in Cape Town, with a satellite office in Windhoek (Namibia).
The firm has since its inception built a reputation for its expertise in ecological, social and economic assessment, research, monitoring, ecosystem services assessment, and natural capital accounting. The 45-person business advises governments, development agencies, non-profit institutions, mining, energy, fisheries, aquaculture, and port development companies, as well as international finance institutions.
Anchor Environmental Consultants also operates a marine taxonomy laboratory in Cape Town, which is currently a member of the North Atlantic Marine Biological Analytical Quality Control (NMBAQC) scheme.
Having worked together for several years on projects across Southern Africa, the two companies are now taking their collaboration to the next level.
“Joining SLR Consulting significantly enhances our reach and capabilities, enabling improved client service and increased impact,” said Jane Turpie, Co-Founder and CEO of Anchor Environmental Consultants. “I am confident that the combined offering will strengthen our capacity to guide both private and public sector activities along a sustainable development path across the continent and beyond.”
Headquartered in the UK, SLR Consulting is a global environmental and sustainability consultancy with a team of more than 5,000 professionals in Europe, the Americas, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa.
“The integration of Anchor into our Africa team strengthens our position as a provider of services in estuarine, coastal, marine and offshore environments, and aligns with SLR Consulting’s strategy to develop global capability in the ports and marine sector,” said Tasman Graham, Managing Director for the Middle East & Africa at SLR Consulting.
“The work of Anchor Environmental Consultants in natural capital is world-class, and this combination will further enhance our joint delivery and impact.”
Over the coming months, the combined teams will be brought together and initiatives will be rolled out to smoothen the integration. Recent collaborations the two firms worked on prior to the deal include support for environmental-related work on major green hydrogen and ammonia developments, as well as mining, infrastructure, offshore gas, and offshore wind projects.
The deal continues a busy period of inorganic expansion for SLR Consulting, which is backed by private equity fund Ares Management. In April, the firm acquired climate platforms Planetrics (from McKinsey & Company) and ClimSystems, following earlier 2026 acquisitions in Chile and in the United Kingdom.
