Johannesburg-based technology solutions firm Sybrin has entirely replenished its senior ranks with a number of promotions and new appointments, extending all the way to the Chairman and CEO levels. Marius Mare is the firm’s new CEO, while co-founder and former CEO Steve Prowse steps in as Group Chairman – alongside two other high-profile announcements made by the firm.

Founded in 1991, Sybrin is a South African software solutions firm that has expanded to become multinational in its operations, particularly across Africa. In terms of service offerings, the firm supports clients with business optimisation via digital platforms – including low-code platform, case management, customer communication management, and enterprise content management.

As digital disruption becomes a pertinent reality in South Africa, businesses are turning to the consulting industry for support with staying relevant. Consequently, technology consulting firms are ramping up their operations in anticipation of growing demand.

Earlier this month, German digital solutions firm Software AG appointed a new country head for its South African operations – a Harvard Business alumna who has experience at Accenture as well as software giant Oracle. Now, Sybrin has made four high-profile changes in staff to strengthen its leadership in South Africa.

At the very top, incumbent CEO and co-founder of the firm Steve Prowse has now ascended to the position of Group Chairman. Prowse – who is a specialist in software development and business analysis – has been CEO of Sybrin since 1992, and will now transition to a more supervisory role, while also managing acquisitions and the Sybrin Enterprise Suite.

Marius Mare, who has been Commercial Director at Sybrin since he joined the firm in 2015, will now replace Prowse at the helm of the firm. Prior to joining Sybrin, Mare was an Associate Director at Big Four firm PwC, a Partner at IBM Global Business Services, as well as a Director at CrossStream Systems and Ovations.

In other appointments, software specialist Roland van Hee will take over as Director of Development Services, transitioning from his current position as the Business Unit Head for the same division. Van Hee has been with the firm since 2008, having held the positions of Technical Lead, Technical Manager, as well as a leadership position in case management.

Lastly, Brandon Roberts will become the new Director of Innovation and Presales for Sybrin in South Africa. Roberts is a computer telephony integration (CTI) expert who has worked with Sybrin since 2011, and has held several leadership positions – including Senior Core Developer and Innovative Technologies Manager.

The cluster of senior appointments is a part of Sybrin’s aggressive growth strategy, which has additionally involved comprehensive modernisation efforts, and the bolstering of investments in the digital solutions segment.
