FCTG SA receives Deloitte Platinum Award for most attractive employer
Based on the inputs received from its Best Company to Work For Survey for 2018, global professional services firm Deloitte has presented a Platinum Award to The Flight Centre Travel Group. The award represents what Deloitte terms as a Seal of Achievement, based on attractiveness of a firm and its internal commitment.
The Deloitte Best Company to Work For Survey runs on the principle that the perception of a company amongst its existing as well as prospective employees is crucial to its smooth operation and eventual success. The survey therefore helps organisations pinpoint the areas where their people management systems can be improved.
Deloitte’s Human Capital team collects information from organisations across South Africa, which it subsequently utilises not only to determine some of the most attractive firms to work for across the country, but also to offer potential clients support based on the insights that they derive from the results.
This year, the Big Four accounting and advisory firm has presented the Platinum Award for South Africa’s most attractive firm to work for to the Flight Centre Travel Group, an Australian multinational firm that offers comprehensive services spanning various aspects of the travel industry.
The firm deals equally in the hotels, flights, rail and cruises domain, offering the full suite of services including tours, gift cards, car hiring, travel insurance and holiday packages. Since its establishment in the early 1980s, the firm has grown to incorporate over 40 brands worldwide, worth approximately $20 billion.
Including South Africa – where it is now amongst the most attractive employers – the firm owns operations across 23 countries. The Platinum Seal that it has achieved in South Africa indicates excellence in two domains of Deloitte’s survey, namely employee engagement and employee attractiveness.
The former deals with the internal employees of an organisation, through an examination of their state of mind and attitude, which eventually determines their ability to operate productively. The latter refers to the internal brand strength of an organisation, which makes it attractive to prospective employees in the market.
Commenting on the recognition, Sam van Gool, Peopleworks Leader at the Flight Centre Travel Group said, “The Deloitte Platinum Seal means a great deal to us as a company. Not only does it mean we will keep attracting the best quality staff, it also means that our current employees are extremely satisfied and engaged."
Deloitte itself has emerged as a top employer in South Africa over recent years, particularly amongst young graduates looking for a career in the IT consulting space. Other popular employers in similar fields include KPMG and Accenture.
